This year brings three significant improvements to Art Ventures grantmaking
Applications are now open for individual artists in Northeast Florida to apply for 2023 Art Ventures grants. Interested artists who reside in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns County are encouraged to apply for funding to help them develop the next level of their artistic careers. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on September 19, 2023.
The Community Foundation has announced three significant changes to Art Ventures grantmaking. In previous years, Art Ventures has awarded both Small Arts Organization and Individual Artist grants each year. Going forward, The Community Foundation will make grants in alternate years for the arts categories. In 2023, all Art Ventures grants will be awarded to individual artists, and in 2024 all grants will be awarded to small arts organizations. Grants will be extended from a one-year cycle to 18 months. Individual artist grants will increase from $3,500 to $5,000. Small arts organization grants will increase from $5,000 to $10,000.
“Over the course of the year, we solicited feedback from Art Ventures applicants and researched emerging trends in arts grantmaking,” said Amy Crane, senior director, grantmaking at The Community Foundation. “Our hope is these enhancements demonstrate a continued commitment to providing meaningful support for Northeast Florida artists and cultural organizations.”
With diversity, equity and inclusion as guiding principles, The Community Foundation also made modifications to the application and scoring rubric for the grants. Criteria include the artistic merit of the work, a proposal to use the funds to advance work to a new level, and the extent to which their artistic practice is rooted in Northeast Florida. Applications are reviewed by a panel of arts professionals. More than 200 individual artists have received Art Ventures grants since 1990. Successful applicants will receive grants with a start date of December 15, 2023.
In addition, The Community Foundation is offering Q&A Sessions via Zoom for prospective applicants on the following dates:
- June 28, 4 PM
- July 28, 12 PM
- August 28, 12 PM
- September 12, 4 PM
